Handwheels (also known as handknobs or handgrips) are a type of handle or knob that is commonly used to adjust, tighten or clamp on things such as machinery, domestic appliances, products and equipment.

There are many different types available and they can be used across a wide variety of applications from those needing a quick adjustment to those that require additional handles or bearings for more precise, accurate alterations.

  • Light duty plastic

Material

Cast iron – a composite made mostly of iron but that also contains trace amounts of carbon and silicon.

Handwheels come not only in a wide range of materials but also solid or spoked and are available with or without keyways – all of which is determined by your requirements.

  • Handwheel styles include scalloped, star, cross, tri-star, 6 point and knurled knobs which have thread inserts (female, male and through thread).
  • Solid or disc handwheels have knurled, moulded edges designed to give a better grip and can be purchased with or without handles. Safety variants available mean that the clutch on an adjustable handwheel can be engaged by pushing or pulling the wheel on its spindle.
  • Spoked handwheels are used as turning mechanisms that use manual rotation to make adjustments. These handwheels generally come in 2 or 3 spoke designs but can have more and a range of handle options.

This building complex came into limelight right away when it was started to appear the way it was designed to look. It uses state-of-the-art geothermal wells for heating and cooling of the complex. Today, it stands in pride in Beijing, China, while the construction had started in 2003. It was completed in 2009 and opened for commercial purposes.

It consists of eight connected towers that make it very unique.

  • The Shard, Renzo Piano Building, London

The Shard is also referred to as the Shard of Glass to show the iconic commercial building by its glorifying look. Shard London Bridge and formerly the London Bridge Tower is a 95-story skyscraper that is super-tall and designed by the Italian architect, Renzo. It forms a part of the Shard Quarter and rises high with its unique look. It is quite famous but the view from across the place is also magnificent. It is owned by the State of Qatar. It rises around 306 meters in height.

  • Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Designed and built by the famous Morphosis Architects, Thom Mayne is the mastermind behind this piece of art. This person is famous for breaking the stereotypes and with this building; he has done precisely the same. It is sheathed in concrete panels and consists of a five-story cube. It is fractured at one corner and set atop of a sweeping plinth planted with grass. And, then slashed across this cube’s exterior is a dramatic escalator which connects visitors from the entrance to the topmost floor.

It is located in Dallas, Texas, and was designed in honor of Ross Perot.

  • Absolute World, Ontario, Canada

This is a twin residential tower complex for commercial purposes residing in Ontario, Canada. The iconic landmark is unique for its design, the breathtaking spiral and curls it makes as it grows taller. It is the part of the Five Tower Absolute City residential complex in the place.

It was designed by Burka Architects and MAD Studio, and also known as the Marilyn Monroe Towers.  These are not very high with mere 50 floors in each, but their design makes them instantly recognizable today.
